Sick Stories exists to promote stories with representation of D/disabled, chronically ill, D/deaf, B/blind, mentally ill, Mad, and neurodivergent people and characters. As a group, we make up around 25% of the global population but our stories are rarely portrayed authentically, if at all.
At Sick Stories, we sell books, zines, and crafts revolving around disabled and neurodivergent spectrums. We also run creative workshops led by and for community members. We will occasionally put out calls for submissions for paid micro-publishing opportunities. We donate 10% of our net profits to local mutual aid fundraisers on a rotating quarterly basis.

Developed in response to a lack of accurate sick, D/disabled, chronically ill, Mad, D/deaf, and B/blind representation within the mainstream literary communities, Sick Stories exists to curate and celebrate the voices of up to 27% of the population. In 2020 we began our journey with book reviews shared on social media. In 2023 we expanded to offering writing workshops, and now we are offering a range of titles as one of the world’s first disability-focused bookstores.

Our workshops are always led by artists and writers who are also community members (those that self-identify as Disabled, chronically ill, D/deaf, B/blind, mentally ill, Mad and neurodivergent). They are designed to be as accessible as possible for similar community members. Got an idea for one? Get in touch!

At the moment, our permanent home is online, but we’ll be popping up in a lot of places around south Ontario. Want to host us at a market, pop-up, or event? Get in touch, otherwise, keep an eye on our social media and newsletter for where to find us.
